August Segel

That’s the name of the German Fallschirmjäger you’re following at the Eyewitness Museum in Beek. He was a soldier in the 1st Fallschirmjäger Regiment, that later transfered into the Hermann Göring Division.

August served on almost all big fronts of World War 2. He invaded The Netherlands in 1940. He fought on the Eastern Front and was a survivor of the invasion of Normandy. After the Battle of the Bulge he even fought in the defense of Berlin! Having served in more than 5 different campaings, August takes you on a tour through the history of World War 2.

I think the museum did a great job in showing the war through the eyes of the enemy!

With diorama’s of all big campaings August participated, the Eyewitness brings you close to history. Instead of focusing on Beek’s history during World War 2, it gives you a broad image of the battlefields of World War 2.

The museum has more than 140 different mannequins and 13 different diorama’s. You might think that the museum doesn’t focus on quality above quantity, but did you know that every item is original? Therefore it’s a must-see for everyone who is interested in World War 2!
