In search of a Hero!

During a metal detecting trip on the Western Front we a found a U.S. Canteen. To our surprise there was a name inscribed!

The owner who named himself Gilbert, probably lost his canteen during The Battle of the Bulge. Now I’m trying to find the old man back and I need your help!

This is what I know:

• Gilbert fought in Luxembourg
• Gilbert was probably with the 2nd infantry regiment(5th Infantry Division) OR he could be with the 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division.
• No Gilbert from the 2nd Infantry Regiment and the 109th Infantry Regiment died in WW2.
• Gilbert participated in The Battle of the Bulge
